Social Skills
Social Skills instruction is taught at levels K-5. We use a variety of resources at the lower grade levels, but for the upper grades, we primarily use Zones of Regulation.
It is important for students to be able to regulate their emotions and work cooperatively with others. We practice these skills extensively. Using Zones of Regulation, students will be able to recognize their emotions and determine which "Zone" they are in: Blue, Green, Yellow, Red. They also learn to identify triggers and use calming and focusing strategies to help them regulate their emotions.
Blue Zone: sad, tired, depressed, sick, bored, etc. (a feeling down or low emotion.)
Green Zone: calm, ready to work, happy, content, focused, etc. (desired level of regulation.)
Yellow Zone: annoyed, frustrated, excited, anxious, scared, etc. (slightly elevated emotion, but still in control.)
Red Zone: Angry, Ecstatic, Yelling, Cheering, etc. (an emotion that causes us to be out of control of ourselves.)
